Swedish massage is the most commonly offered and the best known type of massage. It employs firm but gentle pressure to promote relaxation, ease muscle tension and create other health attributes. This form of massage can also include some deeper work for more therapeutic uses.

Deep Tissue massage targets the deeper muscles of the body. This does not always mean that a therapist must apply harder pressure to attain results. When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions, or bands of painful, rigid tissue, in muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation. Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement. To do this, the massage therapist often uses direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles. Deep tissue massage has also been known as sports massage and has been used to accomplish greater flexibility and mobility in muscle tissue. It can also be helpful in recovering from injuries. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders. Fingertips, knuckles, hands, elbows, and forearms may be used during the deep tissue massage. It is always important to communicate with your therapist so that they can remain within your comfort level of pressure.

Reflexology is an ancient healing art based on the principles that there are reflexes in the hands and feet that correspond to every part, organ and gland in the body. A reflexology session can bring benefit from improved circulation, detoxification, reduced tension and enhanced self healing.

Hot Stone massage is a variation on classic massage therapy. Heated smooth, flat stones are placed on key points on the body and are also used to massage certain areas of the body. These stones may can be placed at specific points on the back, in the palms of the hand, and between the toes. The heat warms and relaxes the muscles, which enables the body to handle deeper pressure, if desired. The warmth also improves circulation and calms the nervous system.

Lymphatic massage is a very different kind of massage which is designed to promote the healthy flow of lymph, the clear fluid which supports immune system function by flowing through the body and collecting foreign invaders. It is possible for this kind of massage to eliminate blockages in the lymphatic system, while also helping to pull out toxins. This can help reduce swelling and has sometimes been recommended right before surgery, to ensure that the lymphatic system is clear. It may also be used after surgery for the same reason. It is generally a very gentle form of massage that is imperative for people who have trouble with a sedentary lifestyle, as well a great energizer for highly athletic people.

Bach Flower massage is a unique form of massage that doesn't specifically work on the muscles. It is specifically designed to address emotional tensions and injuries that are held within the body. Just as in Reflexology, there are areas of the body that correspond with different emotions. By addressing these areas with Bach Flowers and enduing a skin response, it can help release and heal emotions that have been buried or that we just haven't had the tools to face. This is not a substitute for psychological counseling.

Any massage has physical as well as mental and emotional effects. Frequent massage can help healthy people maintain a physical, mental and emotional state of fitness. Massage can increase metabolism, relax and rejuvenate the muscles, and improve the circulation and functions of the lymphatic system. It helps the cells expel metabolic wastes, is effective in pain management and can relieve painful conditions such as muscle spasms, arthritis, neuralgia and headaches to name a few. Massage has also been reported to calm the nervous system and result in relaxation, reduction of tension and anxiety, relief from stress, and bring on a renewed sense of energy.
